    Sub-Saharan and NE Africa (a line from Senegal through S Algeria and Libya, Egypt to southernmost tip of Africa); portion of the Levant (Syria, Lebanon, Turkey, Israel) and the Arabian peninsula (Saudi Arabia, Yemen; also in S Oman [not listed in MSW]); isolated mountains in Algeria and Libya. Does not occur in the Congo Basin forests. The map at IUCN also excludes large parts of Congo, southern Tanzania, Mozambique, Zambia, northern Zimbabwe, Angola and Botswana (except the most eastern part).
