Right now the scientific names on some species do not show on the site - we are working to fix this problem which should be solved after the back-up this morning.

We have now published Clements annual revision of the checklist on the website - version 2019 replaces the version from August last year.

iGoTerra members who use Clements, will benefit from automatic updates of ALL your lists for Birds! In case you have not yet assigned all your ticks and observations to subspecies, you may have a list of species that you have to manually assign correctly according to the updated taxonomy. These ticks/observations you will find when logged in under Observations => Update my splits and lumps: Birds.

Many of the changes follow recent changes in IOC so the checklists are becoming more similar. The IOC WBL now contains 10,758 species, whereas the Clements list recognises 10,585 species. It is noteworthy that an additional 2 families now are recognised in Clements. For some additional high level information on this year's changes, click Clements august 2018.

In order to be better prepared for the next release in a year, we recommend you to go through your lists with our Bird subspecies assignment tool.

IMPORTANT NOTE to all our iGoTerra members using Pocket to register observations in the field. If you use Clements, please make sure to refresh all your checklists - especially the ones from back home since you probably have these always downloaded - to ensure that new species and subspecies are included.

Species 10,721 (+136)
Subspecies 20,452 (-78)
Groups 3,800 (+4)
Families 248 (-2; with 1 additional, extinct family)

On the species page on the iGoTerra website, any changes are shown under Taxonomic comment and for more information you can also go to Cornell's Updates & Corrections, click here.
